Parks Canada Agency Snaring River Bridge Rehabilitation

The Snaring bridge is a 900m long timber and metal bridge which crosses the Snaring River and is located at km5.2 of Snaring River Road. Originally constructed in the 1950's, this bridge has not seen any significant repair or rehabilitation work since. This bridge provides access to Parks Canada Visitor Experience infrastructure (i.e. front and backcountry camping & trails), as well as critical third party infrastructure such as electrical grid and gas lines, as well as heritage buildings and staff housing facilitates. The current condition of the bridge is poor and requires intervention within the next 1-2 years to support various operations and improve and ensure visitor and staff safety. Proposed work includes:

-Removal of existing material at deck joints and installation of new timber end blocks with an embedded steel angle and EMSEAL joints. Removal of damaged timber curb segments and replace and tighten loose nuts and install new J-bolts. Removal of debris at substructure and truss connection points along the bottom chord. Remove and replace shear blocks

-Installation of an approach guardrail in all four quadrants, new deck drains along the length of the bridge, and Class II rip rap at North and South Abutments and up and downstream of the South Abutment.

-Repair damaged and warped section of bridge rail, local coating repair on bearings, partial depth concrete repair of pier cap (top and vertical faces) and pier nose, partial depth concrete repair of abutment seat (top and vertical faces) and partial depth concrete repair of abutment back wall Work will be required below the high-water mark, and will include rip rap placement and concrete repair on piers and abutments.
