Decommissioning buildings, other structures, and services at the former Golf Course

Proposed work is to decommission and remove a building, sheds, shade structures, septic tank, and utilities from the former golf course in Elk Island National Park. Proposed work supports a commitment made by the Government of Canada to working with MAITX, a First Nations-led nonprofit organisation formed to rematriate the Manitou Asinîy (the Manitou Stone), to establish a permanent home for the Manitou Asinîy in the former golf course area. Because some structures proposed for removal have not yet been assessed for cultural heritage, this project will be assessed using a Basic Impact Assessment.

Latest update

September 18, 2026 – Parks Canada intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Parks Canada is inviting public comments until October 18, 2026 respecting that determination.
