Alexander Wastewater System Upgrades

Alexander First Nation is proposing upgrades to the wastewater system. Project scope will include addition of a MAGNA Biofilter Wetland System to the existing wastewater lagoon. This will include the construction of a constructed wetland, and process building. The process building will house screening and batching equipment. The system will use the existing wastewater lagoon for pre- and post-treatment storage. The outfall will not be altered as part of this project. Constructing the wetland will include excavation, and berm construction. Project scope will also include installation of two new lift stations (east and west). This includes construction of new wet wells, control buildings equipped with backup power systems, modern control panels, and integrated safety features. Project scope will include rehabilitating an existing wastewater lagoon, and construction of additional cells for capacity expansion.The lagoon has a compromised liner, causing it to leak, and is in need of repair. 

Latest update

July 14, 2025 – Indigenous Services Canada issued its notice of determination https://iaac-aeic.gc.ca/050/evaluations/document/162410 and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
