Samson Cree Nation Groundwater Well Improvement Project

Samson Cree Nation is proposing improvements to its townsite groundwater well infrastructure (2022 Townsite Groundwater Well Improvements Project). The work will take place at several locations within NW 20-44-24-W4M, NE 19-44-24W4M, SE 20-44-24-W4M, SW 29-44-24-W4M, SE/NE 17-44-24-W4M, NE 4-44-24-W4M, NE 15-44-24-W4M, and NE 30-44 24 W4M and includes:

  • Decommissioning of inactive and active existing groundwater wells which supplies raw water to the Nation's Townsite Water Treatment Plant (Well # 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10).
  • Demolish and removal of the existing pumphouse at Well #5.
  • Construction of a concrete Genset pad and installation of a monopole at Well #12.
  • Installation of radio equipment and antennas at Well #11, the booster station, the water treatment plant, the wastewater lift station, and the wastewater lagoon.
  • Remediation of all disturbed areas to similar or greater capacity to surrounding lands.

Decommissioning of water wells will follow the best practice guidelines as indicated by Alberta Environment Groundwater Information Centre. Works will include removal and disposal of all equipment including power service, well controls and well head. Well to be plugged, capped, and disconnected from the underground water mainline.
