Enoch Cree Nation Traditional Lands Development Project

Enoch Cree Nation proposes to develop the Enoch Cree Nation Traditional Grounds, located on reserve in 14-52-26 W4M, near Yeku Lake, Alberta. The site has functioned as a traditional land use areas for over 30 years, and currently features an imformal parking area. The aim of the proposed project is the improve accessability to the site by constructing a new parking lot, a walking path, and self-contained toliet facilities on site. Possible future developments that may be proposed include the construction of a boardwalk into Yekau Lake.

Notice of Determination

July 6, 2023 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Enoch Cree Nation Traditional Lands Development project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples
  • Indigenous knowledge
  • Community knowledge
  • Comments received from the public and
  • Mitigation measures

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
