Construction and Rehabilitation to Existing Parking Lots, Parkade and Roadways at the Edmonton International Airport

August 24, 2023 – Edmonton Regional Airports Authority must decide whether the proposed rehabilitation and construction work to existing parking lots, parkade and roadways at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online]. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The locations of the project will take place at Edmonton International Airport's Departures area, Arrivals vicinity, the existing parkade and parking lots, in the terminal building and on Airport Road. The scope includes, but is not limited to, design services, construction drawings and construction administration services. Furthermore, and as required, earthworks, concrete removal, repaving, building temporary accesses as well as modernizing, modifying or upgrading existing infrastructure, utility assets and related miscellaneous items (lighting, signage, surveillance equipment, line painting) are all part of the planned work.

The Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is performing the scope of the project to alleviate damage to existing infrastructure, improve safe operations for the general public as well as upgrade and replace existing assets that are at the end of their life cycle.

Notice of Determination

October 04, 2023 – Edmonton Regional Airport Authority has determined that the proposed Construction and Rehabilitation to Existing Parking Lots, Parkade and Roadways project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part..
