Coalspur Vista Coal Mine Phase II Expansion Project

Coalspur Mine (Operations) Ltd. is proposing to expand the existing Vista Coal Mine Phase I Project, an open-pit surface coal mine for the extraction and export of thermal coal. The expansion would be located approximately 3.5 kilometres east of Hinton, Alberta at its western boundary.

May 6, 2021 — Information on the federal impact assessment process for the Coalspur Vista Coal Underground Mine Project and the Vista Coal Mine Phase II Expansion Project has been consolidated and is now available on Registry page 80731. The project name has also changed and is now the Phase I Vista Test Underground Mine and Vista Mine Phase II Expansion Projects.

July 30, 2020 — The Minister of Environment and Climate Change has determined that the Coalspur Vista Coal Underground Mine Project, as well as the Vista Coal Mine Phase II Expansion Project proposed by Coalspur Mines (Operations) Ltd. warrant a designation under the Impact Assessment Act, and has issued an order. The reasons for the Minister’s determination are provided in the Minister’s response.
