Waywayseecappo First Nation Elton Property Gas Bar

Project Summary:  The Waywayseecappo First Nation purchased the referred to property with the intent of converting to reserve status and for commercial purposes. The First Nation did a clean up of the site and replaced with a gravel pad. The property was surveyed, and a phase one environmental assessment was completed. Most existing structures have been removed and discarded by the contractor engaged to provide the demolition. On completion of the negotiation with the Province of Manitoba for an exclusion area, the remaining parcel of land for conversion and development is 5.56 acres. A Gas Station was constructed, and a modular building was placed on the site to be used as a office complex.

Infrastructure:   On purchase the infrastructure consisted of a barn, residential house, detached garage, and several dilapidated sheds. Other infrastructures include Manitoba Telephone Services, Manitoba Hydro and Manitoba Centra Gas. Water and septic services consist of two sewage holding tanks with a combined capacity of 3000 gal and 1500 gal cistern. The FN has service arrangement with: a) Wells-on-Wheels to supply potable water 1500 gal cistern; and b) Clarks's Septic Services to haul sewage.

 

Activities:  Currently there is a Gas Station facility that has been constructed. There is an existing building on the site that was the former detached garage that was retrofitted to be a construction office and storage area. There are prefabricated buildings placed on the site to be leased out the West Region Tribal Council Child and Family Services agency that is used as office space

 

Waste generation: During construction all waste generated was discarded to the local landfill situated in Brandon, Manitoba. All waste generated once the modular building is leased and the Gas Station is operational will be placed in a waste dumpster that has been leased by the Waywayseecappo First Nation. The Waywayseecappo First Nation currently has an arrangement with Manitoba Waste Management (MWM Environment) situated in Brandon, Manitoba to pick all garbage and recyclable material on a monthly basis or when required.
