YWG Groundside Roadway Infrastructure Upgrade Project

Winnipeg Airports Authority and Transport Canada must determine whether the proposed YWG Groundside Roadway Infrastructure Upgrade Project at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG), located in Winnipeg, Manitoba is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Winnipeg Airports Authority and Transport Canada are inviting comments from the public until June 29, 2022 respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

 

The Proposed Project

Winnipeg Airports Authority proposes to undertake the YWG Groundside Roadway Infrastructure Upgrade Project at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. The project area is entirely on developed lands that have supported continuous airport operations since 1928.

The project is for the rehabilitation of the airport outbound roadways Wellington Avenue and Flight Road as well as construction of an active transportation pathway for pedestrian and cyclist access to the air terminal. The project will include removal and construction of existing pavement surfaces, landscaping, land drainage sewers and street lighting infrastructure improvements.  The project will allow for improved safety and efficient movement on the main exit roadways and active transportation pathways at the Airport with primary objective to improve public safety and access for vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist, and transit bus operations. 

The proposed project will have staged construction with an anticipated two-year duration.
