Launch Ramp Replacement, Balsam Bay, Manitoba

Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Small Craft Harbours are responsible for maintaining a safe and accessible harbours. Repairs to the launch ramp at the Balsam Bay Harbour are required in order to maintain a safe and functioning harbour.

Fisheries and Ocean Canada - Small Craft Harbours are proposing to remove and replace the existing concrete launch ramp with a new concrete launch ramp at the Balsam Bay Harbour site. The existing structure is deteriorating and damaged. The new ramp will include a base rock apron, and new concrete pads which will extend slightly further into the water and upland from the existing footprint. An upland section of the proposed launch ramp will require cast in place concrete. The project will involve upland and in-water work.

The contractor will use a combination of heavy equipment (likely an excavator, dump trucks and skid steer) to complete the proposed work.

September 1, 2024 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Fisheries and Oceans Canada are considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
