Gull Harbour Lighthouse Rebuild

The Canadian Coast Guard is proposing to complete a full rebuild of the Gull Harbour Lighthouse located on Federal Land bordered by Hecla-Grindstone Provincial Park near Arborg Manitoba. the property has two light house buildings located on it: a wooden lighthouse originally built in 1898, and a steel framed tower with a lighthouse building on top built in 1924. This project will be focused on the latter, 27-meter-high steel tower and lighthouse.

This Lighthouse is heritage lighthouse protected under the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act (HLPA) and is subject to certain restrictions regarding the methods of rebuilding. Due to decades of neglect, the tower and lighthouse structure is past the point of repair and has been deemed too dangerous to remain. Through conversations with the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office and a public comment period associated with the heritage values of the structure, it has been determined that rebuilding the structure with exact proportions and aesthetics is the most appropriate approach to the rebuild.

there may be some vegetation brushing at the base of the tower in order to remove and rebuild the structure. Access to the site will be conducted via a 1-kilometer-long dirt path/road.
