Pheasant Rump Lagoon Expansion

Pheasant Rump Nakota Nation is proposing a lagoon expansion project. These upgrades will provide adequate wastewater infrastructure capacity requirements to support the community's current and future needs. The lagoon expansion project will consist of a primary cell (0.28 ha treatment area) and an evaporation cell (17,176 sq.m. of evaporation area at full operating level). The existing access road will also be widened in one location to provide adequate space for a truck turn around area. The project site is located approximately 800 meters north of the community core area, bounding the south side township road 84. Construction activities include expansion of the existing lagoon approximately 80 meters to the north and west to construct an evaporation cell and a second primary cell. Implementing a post treatment evaporation cell should provide sufficient storage to effectively eliminate the need for seasonal effluent releases.

Prior to any construction activities, a nest sweep and ground disturbance area inspection will be conducted to determine the presence of any species at risk within the project area. If any sensitive/protected species are to be observed, specie specific protection and mitigation procedures will be implemented and followed. Additionally, all initial topsoil stripping activities will be completed in late summer / fall once the majority of active nesting periods are completed.  Erosion control measures will be implemented as required during construction, and to disturbed ground after construction until adequate vegetative growth has established.

All anticipated waste generation from construction activities will be responsibly handled and disposed of at designated off-reserve facilities. procedures will also be followed to limit the amounts of waste generated during construction, and mitigate any potential contamination pathways for petroleum products for on-site equipment.
