Clear Lake Pier Repairs

The Clear Lake Pier has experienced erosion on the eastern side and requires repairs and future protection. Large rip rap will be placed along the west and north sides of the existing pier. Native vegetation will also be planted to reinforce the soil and enhance habitat for various species in the area.

*Amendment:
In May 2024 a proposal was reviewed, and an impact assessment conducted to facilitate necessary repairs to the Clear Lake Main Pier/Wharf. This included repairing the timber piles, caps and viewing area and the addition of rip rap on the east side, increasing the crest height by 1.2 m with a 3.5:1 slope out to the lake.

In August a decision was made to reconstruct most of the existing structure. The rip rap component remains the same, and the change in scope includes:  1) installation of a new sheet piling wall parallel to the existing wharf along the east side; 2) de-construct and remove the existing damaged timber piles, caps, wharf deck and asphalt surface; 3) infill the isolated sheet-piled area with clean rock and 4) construct a new timber boardwalk approximately 300 mm higher than the current asphalt surface elevation. The proposed changes have numerous benefits, most notably the elimination of safety risks to visitors/staff and the ability to produce a permanent solution to protect an important cultural resource for Riding Mountain National Park.
