Relocation of the line of floating pontoons at Entry Island Harbour

The fishing harbour of Île d'Entrée, owned by Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Small Craft Harbours Branch (SCH), is located at the western end of Île d'Entrée, in the Magdalen Islands. The existing floating pontoons at Île-d'Entrée harbour have reached their useful life limit and must be replaced.

The Île-d'Entrée Port Authority informed SCH of several boat collisions with the existing attachment system (chains and concrete blocks placed on the bottom of the basin).

For its part, the Société des Traversiers du Québec (STQ), which operates a ferry service between Île-d'Entrée and Cap-aux-Meules, would like to have more space so that the NM Yvan-Quinn ferry can maneuver safely in the docking basin.

The current location of the line of existing floating pontoons poses a potential safety issue during conditions of strong winds and moderate agitation in the berthing basin. The project therefore aims to move the line of pontoons.

• The construction of riparian riprap between access to the wharf and the launching ramp;

• Backfilling (filling) between the shoreline riprap and a precast concrete wall;

• The integration of concrete blocks into the riverside riprap in order to install retention arms for the new floating pontoons;

• The construction and installation of new floating pontoons and access walkways;

• The removal and disposal of existing pontoons as well as existing chains and anchor blocks;

• The installation of street lights and service islands, including associated electrical components, on the new floating pontoons.
