Redevelopment of St. Leonard Port of Entry

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is proposing the redevelopment of the St. Leonard Port of Entry (PoE) in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, located on Route 17 at the Canada–United States border opposite the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Van Buren Port of Entry. The project involves construction of a new Port of Entry facility of approximately 350 m² on lands south of the existing traveller processing building, together with supporting operational infrastructure required to maintain and enhance border operations.

The proposed redevelopment would include site preparation activities, grading and minor placement of fill as required, construction of the new Port of Entry building and associated infrastructure, relocation and/or extension of existing municipal and utility services, construction of a secondary garage or support structure, and traffic circulation improvements. The project may also require relocation of utility and communications infrastructure, modifications to access and egress arrangements, and other associated site works.

The redevelopment is anticipated to be completed in phases to allow the existing Port of Entry facilities to remain operational during construction. Upon completion and commissioning of the new facility, traffic operations would be redirected to the new infrastructure and existing facilities would be demolished or removed as required. Temporary construction areas, laydown areas, servicing corridors, and other ancillary works may be required within the overall project footprint.

The purpose of the project is to modernize and replace aging border infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, maintain continuous border services, and support the long-term operational requirements of the CBSA at the St. Leonard Port of Entry.
