Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikiwahp Community Subdivision Development

Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikiwahp, in partnership with Driftpile Cree Nation proposes the development of a new residential subdivision at Driftpile River IR No. 150. The subdivision will include greefield development of new roads, water / wastewater / electrical / gas utilities, drainage infrastructure and storwater pond, lighting, flood mitigation berms, and buildings including a family enhancement building, Mihataakaw Sipiy Law and Governance Lodge, Food Sovereignty Program site, vehicle and storage garage, Child and Family Services building, cultural revitalization lodge, ceremonial cultural space, employee housing, and an independent living four-plex building.

The project will require vegetation clearing, grubbing, grading, excavation, import of fill, construction, construction, paving, and operation. The site has been selected for its core access to the community and connectiong to existing roads.


Latest update

January 31, 2026 - Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikiwahp Community Subdivision Development project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
• impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
• Indigenous knowledge;
• community knowledge;
• comments received from the public; and
• technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikiwahp may carry out the project in whole or in part.
