UBF02669 / CU980 Highspeed Broadband Fiber Optic Network Installation at Woodland Cree First Nation

Mighty Peace Wireless, on behalf of Woodland Cree First Nation, proposes the construction and operation of a broadband fiberoptic network throughout the reserves lands of Woodland Cree First Nation. This project aims to establish a last-mile network to improve broadband access for 303 Indigenous household user points within the Woodland Cree First Nation in Alberta. The last-mile network will use Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology to deliver high-speed internet.

The user points are distributed along 75 kilometers of roads where the wired last-mile network will be deployed. To support this, transport fiber will connect the Bell/Axia Point of Presence (POP) to a newly developed head-end within the community office. From this head-end, a backbone network will extend throughout Cadotte Lake, west to Simon Lake, and east toward Marten Lake, connecting the last-mile infrastructure directly to individual user points.

To establish the network's connection to an Internet gateway, 350 meters of transport fiber will be deployed to link the Axia POP in Cadotte Lake to the new Point of Presence within the new head-end. Internet transport will then be facilitated via the Alberta SuperNet. Additionally, upgrades will be made to the existing Axia POP, by Axia, to ensure sufficient broadband capacity for this project.

Key components of the project include:
• Last-Mile Network: A GPON FTTH network connecting 303 household user points.
• Backbone Network: Connecting the head-end in Cadotte Lake to Simon Lake and Marten Lake.
• Transport Fiber: 350 meters of new fiber linking the Axia POP to the newly established head-end.
• Point of Presence: One new POP will be created to deliver dedicated broadband services to the community.

This project will significantly enhance connectivity for the Woodland Cree First Nation, addressing critical broadband gaps and providing the infrastructure necessary for high-speed, reliable internet access.
