Wharf Construction, Bay de Verde, Newfoundland

DFO, Small Craft Harbour intends to construct a new wharf construction in Bay de Verde, Newfoundland. The scope of work for this project includes the construction of a new treated timber crib and span finger pier wharf at Bay De Verde, NL. The new 43m wharf will consist of five (5) 6.1m x 6.1m treated timber cribs separated by four (4) spans and topped with a reinforced concrete deck, complete with treated timber coping and wheelguard and untreated fenders and ladders. Mooring cleats will be spaced at 6.1 m intervals. The water depth at the head of the wharf is over 11.0 m, so a rock mattress will be built to -5.25m LNT for the cribs to rest on. The total area of the rock mattress footprint is approximately 1250 m2. A new electrical shed will supply electrical power to pedestals, poles, lights for a complete electrical installation.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada- Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) intends to make a determination regarding whether carrying out the construction of a wharf, at the Small Craft Harbours site in Bay de Verde, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, DFO-SCH is inviting public comments in respect to that determination for 30 days following the posting of this notice.
