Replacement of the outhouses in Quarry Bay with urine-diverting dry toilets

The Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve must replace the outhouses in Quarry Bay, which have reached the end of their useful life. In addition to the latrines, the facilities at Quarry Bay include a dock, a kitchen shelter, 6 oTENTik campsites, and 8 backcountry campsites. The site is designated as a front-country campground.

The outhouses will be dismantled and replaced with urine-diverting dry toilets. The targeted areas are already largely disturbed by the existing outhouses. The new facilities will require a minor expansion of the disturbed area. This will involve clearing vegetation, removing the organic soil layer (approximately 10 m² per site), installing an infiltration trench, and then installing the prefabricated structures on site.
