Renovation of the Mgr-Blanche terminal at the Port of Sept-Iles

The Port of Sept-Iles must repair the Mgr-Blanche dock given the obsolescence of the infrastructure built in 1956 and its general collapse of up to nearly 2 metres, which submerges it during high tides and makes it greatly vulnerable to climate change, in addition to all the findings confirming the end of its useful life. The complete rehabilitation of the terminal is therefore required so that it regains its uses and its primary vocation, which is to house the crucial operational base of the tugs, which ensure the smooth and safe movement of goods from the port, in addition to being the essential link for the continuity of reception activities for cruise passengers.

The work first involves demolishing the portion of the wooden wharf. The riprap around the terminal will then be raised to a tide gauge of 5 metres, equal to the Cruise Ship dock, and a new concrete wall will be built to hold the new embankment in place and also provide additional protection for the infrastructure. A new stormwater drainage system, including treatment units, will be installed at the terminal.

On the north side of the terminal, three new berths will be built for tugs. For technical reasons related to the presence of riprap on the seabed, these three berths will be built on piles and linked to the wharf and to each other by footbridges.

During the realization of this project, several mitigation measures specific to the project will be put in place, in addition to all the Environmental precaution measures of the Port of Sept-Iles which must be respected at all times on the Port's land.

The project for the renovation of the Mgr-Blanche Terminal at the Port of Sept-Iles is part of the financing agreement with the National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF) between the Sept-Iles Port Authority and Transports Canada. The project, which has already been subject to a determination notice by the Sept-Îles Port Authority, will also undergo a determination notice by Transports Canada.
