Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation - South/East Region Watermain Extension

Georgina Island First Nation is a First Nation community located in Lake Simcoe. Currently, eastern and southern residents of Georgina Island do not have access to treated drinking water. The proposed project entails a 5,300m extension of watermain to service community members on Bear, Loon and Milne Roads. The existing water treatment plant, constructed in 2019, has sufficient capacity to service these locations, while also providing eastern and southern residents with fire protection. This design will meet the water servicing needs of all community members over the next 20-year design lifetime.

5/13/2022 – Indigenous Services Canada has issued a Notice of Determination, and has determined that the proposed Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation – South/East Region Watermain Extension project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
