Boat Lift Replacement - GOC6384448

The purpose of this project is to replace the small boat lift system at the dock behind the RCMP Windsor detachment, on the Detroit River. The current system is old and no longer works. The boat lift is used to lift RCMP boats completely out of water for safe mooring. The new system will be supported by a new deep foundation system. The boat slip will be extended to meet the dimensional requirements of the new vessel. The existing walkway surrounding the slip will be modified to suit the updated configuration. Other authorities to be consulted include the Essex Region Conservation Authority, which oversees the floodplain in the area, as well as Environment and Climate Change Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) due to the work proposed in or near the water. Mitigation measures to address any environmental concerns are currently under review.

A species at risk assessment found a Barn Swallow nest under the edge of the dock. Mitigation measures will be investigated to reduce impacts on barn swallows.
