Forest Fuel Management on Quaaout #1

December 1, 2021 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the Forest Fuel Management on Quaaout #1, located in Quaaout #1  is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The project consist in building permanent and temporary forestry roads to support timber harvesting and forest fuel reduction activities.

Vancouver – February 16, 2022 Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Forest Fuel Management on Quaaout #1 is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects].

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

  • Identified in the Timber Permit, the Forest Fuel Management prescription, and the Environmental Screening Report, issued to SkwlaxTimber Partnership LLP.

 

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
