Zhiibaahaasing Water Storage and Distribution System Upgrades
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The project proposes the design and construction for a new water supply system in the community of the Zhiibaahaasing First Nation. The scope of the project includes:
- A new low lift station building with an extension of the existing intake to the new wet well.
- New low lift pumps with a connection to the existing raw water forcemain used for the new Emergency Water Treatment Plant.
- New water treatment plant with slow sand filtration (reusing the existing filter and two new filters), UV disinfection reactors, chlorination (reusing the existing chlorination system), clear well or tank for new high lift pumps.
- Emergency flows, peak flows and fire flows would be provided via gravity from the at grade standpipe, plus 150mm, 200m, 250mm & 300mm diameter watermain with hydrants and 28 water services.
- The watermain pipes would be installed along the main road from the new water treatment plant into the community and would allow for Zhiibaahaasing First Nation to build homes and institutional facilities as needed on Sagon Road.
- Water treatment plant parking lot is required (proposed asphalt) for site access and will include adequate drainage.
- An access road to the standpipe will be required and will interest Philips Road and extend southern and southern west approximately 560m to the proposed standpipe site.
The Project aims to provide potable drinking water storage and distribution system upgrades for the community of Zhiibaahaasing so they may have safe and reliable access to clean drinking water that meets the provincial regulations. The new system will also provide fire protection which has been a problem in Zhiibaahaasing.
