Tip-to-Tip Trail Realignment, Burritts Rapids, ON

Parks Canada intends to realign a 60 m section of the Burritts Rapids Tip-to-Tip trail to provide the public with continued access to the full trail and the staff with continued access to the Parks Canada operated dam. This section of trail is currently at risk due to an adjacent failing slope that has been undercut due to flows downstream of the dam. The proposed realignment will be up to (5 m) southeast of the original centre point of the trail and will require some vegetation removal (including trees of varying size and species) in this area to accommodate the lateral move. The scope will also include some restoration of the area adjacent to the slope failure. This is seen as an interim project to protect access to the existing trail prior to potentially initiating slope and shoreline stabilization, which are not within the scope of this project. The proposed project area is within critical habitat (nesting) for Eastern Whip-poor-will which will be a focus of the Impact Assessment.
