Couchiching First Nation - Multi-Use Community Recreation Trail

This project will support the design and construction of a Wellness and Recreation Trail that extends the length of the community, connecting to the recreation trail proposed in the Town of Fort Frances. This trail will not only provide a safe and accessible route for members to take to access essential community services, but it will also extend and enhance trail connectivity between the two communities.

The trail will include 1.67km of 2.0m wide paved asphalt as well as 2.4km of 2.0m wide boardwalk, lighting, bench seating, fencing and barriers, as well as crossing signage at the location of the railway.

The path will encourage active transportation and wellness for all community members, including Elders, youth, and those with limited mobility. The trail will offer spaces for resting areas and benches along the way for comfort and accessibility.  Ultimately, the Couchiching First Nation Wellness Trail will serve as a hub for physical activity, cultural engagement, and environmental stewardship, helping foster a sense of community, improve health and wellness and be the next step in establishing a safe active transportation link with Fort Frances.
