Wharf Reconstruction at Hermitage SCH, NL

The proposed project at Hermitage SCH includes the demolition, removal, and reconstruction of the southern wharf. The existing southern wharf is a timber crib wharf with a concrete deck. The shed and two floating docks attached to the existing wharf will be removed and re-installed after the new wharf has been constructed. All demolition debris, including creosote timber, will be disposed of at an approved disposal site.   The new wharf will be a like-for-like replacement, with the new wharf being constructed in the exact footprint of the existing wharf and have similar dimensions. The new wharf will be  constructed of timber piles, complete with reinforced concrete deck and concrete pile caps. Timber retaining cribs will be constructed nearest the wharf approach and ramp over the existing piled wharf. Mooring cleats, structural timber for coping, wheelguard, wheelguard blocking, bracing, fenders, ladders and other associated hardware will be installed on the new wharf.

Notice of Intent to Make a Determination – Start of Public Comment Period

September 18, 2026 – The federal authorities intend to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, the federal authorities are inviting public comments until October 18, 2026 respecting that determination.
