Interim Water System Upgrades and Extension on Neskantaga First Nation

The Proposed Project

Neskantaga First Nation is proposing various upgrades to and expansion of the community's water system. Project activities are as follows:

  • Installation of approximately 600 m of watermain from a dead end watermain by the Elder's 6-plex to the dead end at the Arena to eliminate two (2) dead ends;
  • Extension of approximately 500 m of road and sewer with the proposed watermain looping to create 15 new serviced lots;
  • Installation at an automatic flusher at the dead end by the school to automate the flushing in this location;
  • Installation of approximately 200 m of watermain and sanitary forcemain to the east intersection of Neskantaga Drive and Lakeshore Drive to create six (6) new serviced lots; And
  • Replacement of the existing water treatment plant chlorine dioxide system.

This work is meant to be an interim measure to support the community's growing water usage needs until a new water treatment plant is operational.
