Development of 10 Lot Residential Subdivision on Eabametoong First Nation

The Proposed Project

Eabametoong First Nation is proposing the construction of a small subdivision (1200 m2) consisting of 10 lots for the eventual construction of 10 residential houses. Project activities include:

 

Road Construction

  • Clearing, grubbing and leveling of road section;
  • Road will be 200 m long and 8 m wide and built in accordance with MTO standards;
  • 4:1 side slope with a minimum 0.75 m deep ditch with 3:1 ditch back slope; And
  • Site drainage and water diversion, and installation of new culverts along the road section.

Lot Development and Servicing

  • Clearing, grubbing and peat removal along the road right-of-way;
  • Construction of driveways for individual lots; And
  • Installation of water and sewer lines that will terminate 5 m past the front property line.

Water Main Distribution Extension

  • Installation of PVC watermain along the proposed subdivision, connecting the existing mainline; And
  • Fire hydrants to be installed at 150 m intervals along the proposed water main.

Wastewater Collection Extension

  • Installation of PVC sanitary main along the proposed subdivision for a gravity sewage system.

Hydro Extension

  • Extension of overhead transmission lines to future residential homes.

 

The construction of this subdivision will help alleviate some of the housing needs of the community that is currently experiencing a crisis due to the lack of suitable housing available to accommodate the community's growing population.

End of Public Comment Period

October 20, 2024 – The public period on the project is closed. Indigenous Services Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
