Weather Station Installation in the West Block of Grasslands National Park

Grasslands National Park is proposing to install a weather station in the West Block of the park. The station will provide real-time weather information in an area that otherwise has little coverage, and this information will be used to support the fire and visitor safety programs. The station itself is 3 m tall, with a 1 m2 tripod base, requires anchors to secure, and will also require a cattle exclusion (typically a fence) to prevent damage from cattle. The weather station needs to be sited strategically to avoid obstructions or other features that might bias weather readings, but must also take into account other sensitive features such as critical habitat for species at risk and cultural resources. This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
