Wharf Reconstruction at Wigwam Point SCH, NL

The proposed project at Wigwam Point SCH includes the demolition, removal, and reconstruction of a wharf. This will be a like-for-like replacement, with the new wharf being constructed with similar dimensions of the existing wharf and constructed within the approximate footprint of the existing wharf. The existing crib timbers and fenders contain creosote timber which will be disposed of at one of the provincially approved lined waste disposal sites. The new wharf will be constructed of treated timber crib wharf structures, topped with a new reinforced concrete deck. To provide an adequate foundation for the new wharf, drilling and/or blasting and material removal will be necessary to achieve that crib seat.

Notice of Intent to Make a Determination – Start of Public Comment Period

September 18, 2026 – The federal authorities intend to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, the federal authorities are inviting public comments until October 18, 2026 respecting that determination.
