Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek Waste Transfer Station Project

This project includes the development of a Waste Transfer Station for Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek (BNA). This new station will accommodate community waste and recycling for the members as well as provide for the expected future community growth in BNA. The new waste transfer station will exist in a new footprint within BNA lands. This project includes an entrance off of Copper Thunderbird road and a fenced-in transfer station that will contain an attendant kiosk and bins for garbage and recycling. New permanent infrastructure will be needed including: a fence along the property boundary to keep animals out and restrict potential waste movement, a small attendant kiosk at the gate entrance, light standards at 4 property corners and entrance, concrete slabs for waste and recycling bins to be located on, and a concrete retaining wall to contain waste and enable ease of loading. The remaining driving surface will consist of gravel with a drainage ditch surrounding the perimeter of the site. All waste/recycling bins will be portable. The majority of the site has already been cleared of vegetation, although a small strip of trees still requires clearing. The site will require grading and ditching to prepare the site for concrete works and development of designated waste transfer areas. A trench will also be required around the site to properly install buried electrical lines to power the light standards. The drainage ditch around the site will tie into the existing drainage ditch along Copper Thunderbird Road. There is already an existing culvert installed in the site entrance. Electricity for the site will come from existing distribution lines that run along the north side of Copper Thunderbird Road. A fence will be installed along the property boundary to keep wildlife out, restrict potential waste movement, and inhibit illegal dumping outside hours of operation. Public safety has been considered by utilizing primarily non-flamable construction materials such as gravel and concrete, and by keeping the area illuminated, with an attendant on-site during hours of operation. The waste and recycling that will be deposited at the facility will only remain there temporarily before it is transferred to a separate landfill or recycling facility outside the community. All waste and recycling will be stored within large, roll-off waste disposal bins. There is no on-site fuel required for site operations. During construction the contractor will follow appropriate health and safety practices and environmental management plans, including spill response, waste management, and emergency response. Approximate footprint of the facility 8000 m.
