McLeod Lake Indian Band Community Centre

The proposed project involves the construction of an approximately 1,150 m2 community centre on previously developed land in McLeod Lake, British Columbia. The project location is between the Band Administration building and the Ah'da Centre on Ah'da Road.
The site in question was cleared of trees in the early 1980's and currently houses four community buildings that will be relocated or modified prior to construction activities.
The newly constructed community centre will include:
- A gymnasium;
- A community kitchen;
- Washrooms;
- Fitness rooms;
- A space for the display of historical and cultural Tse'khene artifacts, paintings, and other items of cultural significance;
- Multi-purpose rooms for meetings and courses; and
- Adjacent outdoor space for sports, events, and gatherings.
The proposed project has been a long-term goal of the Tse'khene people of McLeod Lake, as they have sought to construct a multi-purpose facility for gatherings, activities and to celebrate their culture. Children and youth of the Band who go to school and live in other communities will be able to access the Centre for cultural and traditional programming with their Indigenous heritage, if they are not able to access these services where they live. Other Tse'khene bands will also be welcomed and additional work will be completed to see how the cultural needs of all the Tse'khene people can be met with activities and celebrations at the proposed McLeod Lake Indian Band Community Centre. Finally, the new community centre will also be able to be used as an emergency centre and muster point for the entire community.
