Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On January 26, 2004, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because Industry Canada considered providing financial assistance to the proponent.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

The project is to take place within the geographic limits of the Village to Clifford. The project has three major components: ∙ at the Well #1 site, a new chlorine contact water main will be installed, upgraded instrumentation will be installed inside the pump house building, and the existing standpipe will be decommissioned; ∙ Well #2 will be decommissioned; and ∙ at the third site, the construction of Wells #3 and #4, the construction of a new elevated storage tank with a storage capacity of approximately 1270 cubic metres, the construction of a pumphouse to house the treatment and pumping equipment in the base of the elevated storage tank, and the extension of services (water main, storm sewer and sanitary sewer) along the Nelson Street road allowance to the project site.

Final Decision

A decision was taken on October 16, 2007 and was that the authority may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, after taking into consideration the comprehensive study report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures, the authority is of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Follow-up Program

It was determined that a follow-up program to verify the accuracy of the environmental assessment and/or determine the effectiveness of any measures taken to mitigate the adverse environmental effects is required for this project. For further information or to obtain a copy of the follow-up program, please contact Industry Canada.
