  • The company and the government already said they might put a nuclear plant at the Lambton site later on.   Before they start building anything, we need to know exactly when and how that decision could happen.   They should tell the public what steps or approvals would let them switch from “just exploring” to actually planning a nuclear project.   And right now — while the environmental review is happening — they must look at what a nuclear plant on that same site would mean for our water, air, and safety befor e doing anything that can’t be undone.   When will the Hereditary Line of Walpole Island Unceded Anishinaabeg be consulted?   We haven't received a direct written notification as of today, November 2, 2025.   Furthermore, we all would like to know when will the technical and environmental studies be presented for the community as part of the consultation?   And when should we expect to hear from Artura and OPG as to when this consultation will take place?   Our future generations will be affected by our decisions  of today.

Attachment Investigation urgently required into contamination of water wells

  • The North Chatham-Kent Municipality continues to suffer serious area wide water well interferences caused by underlying Kettle Point Black Shale particles known to contain heavy metals such as lead and cadmium enter the drinking water supply of the rural population in North Chatham-Kent The investigation by the Ontario Ministry of Environment has failed on many fronts to be considered adequate as the Ontario government has not collected or analyzed any of the particulate for long term or acute health effects- no bioavailability studies to date have been conducted nor a causation mechanism addressed to explain the observed Black shale particles entering water wells Without Federal assistance this population of rural families will be exposed to heavy metals either chronic or acute  Please advise if the Federal Government can investigate and in what time frame  Thank you Kevin Jakubec

  •                                                          Caretakers of the Land !                               Economic growth at the cost of a hundreds of thousands of residents who's families rely on the clean air and water is not meaningful consultation for those who will have to live through the next 50 years of pollutions expelled. We as caretakers of this land are outraged at the lack of respectful consultation and timeframe given to review and investigate the plans put forward . When money becomes a driving factor and humanity suffers ,that is cause for concern. All the money in the world cannot replace your loved ones who have passed from pollution caused by industrial factors which were avoidable!                    The Atura meeting I attended was 40 minutes, and that did not show expertise in the planing stages, and the staff had no understanding of First Nations relationship to the Land . The slide show presented had very little planning and created more questions than answers.                    The Consultation process even before BillC-5 was flawed. The planning stage with First Nations was not included during the Drafting of Blueprints as well as permissions to move forward . 2016 ,that's 9 years we should have had to present a valid yay or nay to this project . That being said, based on the available information I have a couple questions specific to the project: Why are other grid stabilizing technologies considered incompatible with the site? Notably small modular reactors. Best deployed in fleets, complementing those planned for Darlington Able to handle baseload generation Contributes to skilled labour in the area and nation Has a future beyond 2050 Diversifies local grid Will pollution from existing local industrial regions compound with the proposed plants pollution? 3/10 of Ontarios largest fossil fuel generating stations (By Watt capacity) are currently operating in the area. These issues directly affect Indigenous rights, health, and territorial stewardship under Section 35 of the Constitution Act. Air Quality Concerns: Atura’s preliminary air quality modeling (SLR Consulting) may underestimate actual and cumulative effects. It assumes only 1,500 operating hours per year, yet no binding regulation ensures this limit will persist. Increased operation could elevate NOx and ground-level ozone levels—already a concern in Sarnia–Lambton. The cumulative effects assessment also excludes other regional gas proposals such as the Hydrogen Ready project. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Atura’s estimate of 345,000 tonnes of GHGs per year relies on optimistic efficiency assumptions and limited operational modeling. I have reviewed the summary of the Initial Project Description and ask that the following issues related to air, water, overall health, and available alternatives be given comprehensive and priority consideration during the impact assessment process.  1. Concerns Regarding Water Quality and the Walpole Island First Nation  The project's location near the St. Clair River, a vital water resource, is highly concerning, particularly for Indigenous communities.  Impact on Drinking Water: I am gravely concerned that the Walpole Island First Nation (Bkejwanong Territory) obtains its drinking water from the water system that will be impacted by this peaker plant's water usage and/or discharge. The IA must be required to provide absolute assurance, in consultation with the First Nation, that the project will not compromise the quality or security of their water supply, during all phases (construction, operation, and decommissioning).  Water Consumption and Discharge: I request full transparency and a rigorous assessment of the plant's anticipated water withdrawal and consumption rates. These contractors employ a highly skilled, unionized workforce drawn from a labour pool of approximately 6,000 tradespeople. The livelihoods of both our contractors and tradespeople depend on the strength, stability, and growth of our industrial base. Sarnia's Chemical Valley is one of the most highly concentrated petrochemical hubs in North America and is recognized as Ontario's largest industrial center. The long-term economic health of this sector is a shared priority for all stakeholders, and reliable infrastructure is essential to sustaining that growth. It is in this context that we wish to express our strong support for the proposed Riverside Generating Station.   • This Initial Project Description acknowledges that Indigenous communities have raised concerns regarding cumulative effects. More specifically they mention their concern over air quality and environmental health in the region, in an area that is already impacted by industrial  pollution. Beyond showing compliance  with provincial air quality criteria for this facility, what other measure or commitments will be implemented to actively reduce the cumulative deterioration of air quality that will disproportionately effect surrounding communities (including nearby Indigenous communities)? How will the project proactively incorporate Indigenous Traditional Knowledge Systems into the longterm environmental health and monitoring plans throughout the lifetime of this project?
