Kitasoo First Nation Community Expansion Project

The Project involves the development of 11 residential lots on the southern edge of the community and 57 lots at the northern end of the community, with road access to the existing community. The northern lots will be developed in two phases, with the first phase comprising of 20 lots. The southern lots will also be included in the first phase of development (Appendix A). Site preparation
will involve vegetation clearing prior to grading and excavation for the access road and the lots. The road base will comprise of granular material and will be paved following placement. Perimeter ditching and drainages will retain the existing hydrological regime. Findings of this EIA are intended to support the detailed design process by identifying sensitive environmental features to
avoid during the different phases of the Project. The Site is situated on Swindle Island on the BC central coast and is bordered by Trout Bay and Klemtu Passage to the east, and a mixture of bog and upland forest habitat to the west, north and south. The Project area is currently a mix of forest and wetland habitat, with some previous disturbance from Project investigation and community services (i.e., powerline right of way). The coordinates of the Site are: UTM Zone 9U, 532135.76 East, and 5827321.07 North.
