Founded in 1965, AWA strives to help Albertans understand the intrinsic values that wildlife and wilderness provide, and encourages communities to participate in conservation initiatives that will ensure a legacy for future generations. With over 7,000 members and supporters in Alberta and across Canada, AWA is dedicated to conserving and protecting Alberta’s wilderness. The Marguerite Lake Compressed Air Energy Storage Project is proposing to construct a power plant, using stored compressed air to operate turbines during times of low power supply or high energy demand. The project will use a 125 MW compressor train and two 160 MW expander trains, powered by hydrogen and natural gas, to store and release the gas. A salt cavern 1,100 m below the surface will be mined for storage space, and a 14 km long pipeline will be installed to provide natural gas. Based upon a review of the Initial Project Description (IPD) submitted by the proponent, the only regulatory approval required from Transport Canada for the Project would be an approval under the Canadian Navigable Waters Act (CNWA) for water crossings needed for the electrical transmission line and 14 km natural gas pipeline. However, there is not enough information in the IPD, such as the navigability of waterways in the project area, for Transport Canada to determine whether a CNWA approval is required. Waterways that are not navigable are not regulated by the CNWA. As such, any works, such as watercourse crossings, in, on, over, under, through or across these waterways do not require a CNWA approval. • Good Morning, to whom it may concern. My name is Scott Cardinal and I am commenting on behalf of the Kikino Metis Settlement pertaining to the Marguerite Lake Compressed Air Energy Storage Project which will be located 85km east of Our Home, near the village of La Corey. I have yet to completely go over the report in its entirety, as I skipped to the parts that mean most to me; Indigenous and Environmental sections. I like what I have been reading and I am personally satisfied with the involvement that we have had thus far. We look forward to be continually involved in this process, and we have hopes that our Members might have a future being directly involved in this projects lifetime.
