Little Red River Cree Nation John D'or Prairie Gravel Pit Expansion
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
This planned pit is north of an existing pit that was mined historically to support Little Red River Cree Nation, and will be 85.6 ac or 34.64 ha with a phased, four cell development sequence to minimize site disturbance and allow for progressive reclamation. Little Red River Nation conducted test hole exploration of the area including 28 test to quantity the resource extent and delineate pit boundary. Development is planned by Caribou Mountain Construction to expand in the spring of 2021 until 2028.
It was quantified that 674,697 tonnes of minable aggregate material were in this deposit. (based on a 1.52 tonne/cubic meter conversion factor). Based on typical use of Little Red Cree Nation historical use, this pit would provide aggregate, clay, and sand material for 4-6 years for all their required needs depending on production needs.
Black Fly completed the biophysical (soils, vegetation, wildlife, and any weltands/watercourses) was assessed by regulated environmental professionals in the field on October 4th, 2020.
