Dear Minister, IAAC members,
We simply want to urge you to support and appoint a review panel as soon as possible for the Castle Mountain Coal Mine expansion project in B.C. because of the serious public concerns about the project, the known international impacts to waters and fish population in this watershed, the lack of public confidence in the management of the water pollution problem to date, and the need to address cross-jurisdictional First Nations rights on the matter.
We work across Canada on mining issues, and the water pollution issues downstream from the Castle Mountain operation and into the entire Elk River Watershed are amongst the worst cases—if not the worst case—of mine related water pollution in the country. The promises made over and over by the mine proponent have not lead to a lowering of pollution as expected by the public and affected Indigenous peoples. It is time to shed a brighter light on this problem and to support our governments in taking concrete actions to control and stop this pollution.
Thank you for your consideration,
Sincerely,
