Protect marine life from noise and spills

To The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada,

I am very concerned about the impact of noise exposure on sea lions and other marine life in Howe Sound. Changing the exclusion zonefrom 7.32 km to just 125 m would mean marine life is exposed to excess noise.160 decibels is stressful and may cause long term damage to these animals. I believe that is time that we stop treating nature as a resource to be exploited.

I believe that it is important to recognise that Howe Sound is a UNESCO biosphere reserve and that extra care must be taken to avoid impacts to marine life here. We should not be cutting corners on conditions meant to protect the environment.

We should also be attentive to water quality when respecting the life of sea lions and seals. We shouldrequire Woodfibre to take action to protect marine mammals from dangerous chemicals.

Woodfibre LNG chose the site for its project knowing it had historic contamination and they would have to take responsibility for it. The Impact Assessment Agency should not limit the company’s requirements to report and remedy any spills or sediment to that caused by the project itself.

Yours truly,

Carolyn Houlding-Braunberger <personal information removed>
