The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to conduct maintenance at various locations within the Gagetown Range and Training Area (RTA) consisting of culvert, fording, and freshet maintenance. Maintenance activities may occur at existing watercourse crossings and roadways and will consist of replacing existing culverts, naturalizing the sites, freshet repairs along roadways (gravelling and ditching), cross culvert and fording areas. Culvert crossing repairs/maintenance are proposed in areas that are no longer functioning adequately due to damage, deterioration, or changes in the watercourse hydraulic conditions. Crossings will be designated to current RTA standards to account for changes in run-off characteristics or design enhancements since the culverts were installed. For each activity, the construction footprint is expected to remain within the existing easements. Ford and freshet maintenance construction requirements may vary slightly between each site and will be based on the site-specific conditions.
