Powwow Arbour Construction – Public Comments Invited

April 4th, 2023Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) must determine whether the proposed Powwow Arbour Construction, located in Pierceland, SK is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

Big Island Lake Cree Nation will construct a new powwow arbour to replace the old structure and provide a safe space, suitable for cultural ceremony and teachings.  The proposed Powwow Arbor will be 160 ft diameter, with seating capacity to accommodate approximately 1100 guests, and host 600 dancers.
