Notice of Determination

June 21, 2022 – Global Affairs Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Ottawa – June 21, 2022 – Global Affairs Canada has determined that the proposed project Construction of 6 incinerators located in Djugu and Irumu in Democratic Republic of Congo is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • Community knowledge and implicated actors;
  • Comments received from the public; and
  • Technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

  • Identification of the environmental risks and opportunities of the planned constructions and/or rehabilitation;
  • Implementation of mitigation measures to reduce the negative impact and prioritize what is likely to contain it;
  • Implementation of plans for the execution of spaces and works according to the standards in force

Global Affairs Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Global Affairs Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part by their implementing partner Save the Children.
