Construction of New Tennis and Basketball Courts – 5 Wing Goose Bay

August 9, 2021 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to construct a new outdoor recreation area located adjacent and north of the Gymnasium, consisting of tennis courts, a basketball court and associated access walking trail. The new outdoor recreation area will provide users with the convenience to access the Gym facilities in a more central location. The total estimated project area is 2,973 m2, and consists of: 2,610 m2 prepared surface for tennis and basketball courts; and, 363 m2 gravel walking/access trail. It is anticipated that the construction of the recreation area (tennis courts, basketball court and walking trail) will be completed in the Fall of 2021.
