Minister's Response – Long Pond Development Project
Project
Ocean Choice International (the Proponent) is proposing to develop approximately 1.7 hectares of new land that will house an approximately 90-metre long marginal wharf, a laydown and parking area, and cold storage building infrastructure. The Project would be located in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Decision
Non-designated project
Reasons
Under the Impact Assessment Act, the Minister must not make a designation if a federal authority has exercised a power or performed a duty or function conferred on it under any Act of Parliament-other than the IAA- that could permit the physical activity to be carried out, in whole or part. Therefore, the Minister has reached the decision that the designation must not be made for the following reasons:
- On September 18, 2020, Fisheries and Oceans Canada issued a Fisheries Act for the impacts to fish habitat resulting from components of the work, namely the proposed wharf, access road, and infilling of Long Pond Harbour.
- On December 22, 2020, Transport Canada issued approval under the Canadian Navigable Waters Act.
