Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
Upgrade Railhead at Garrison Wainwright

May 1, 2020 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project to Upgrade Railhead at Garrison Wainwright is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

This project involves improvements to the existing railhead facility at Garrison Wainwright. Project design is scheduled for 2020. Construction is proposed for 2020 or 2021. Project activities include:
·upgrade parking lot with new gravel
·upgrade loading facilities
·upgrade approaches
·re-build bison handling area (corrals)
·improve site drainage
·upgrade lighting
·survey for secondary entrance/exit for the Garrison
