Decision

Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada have taken the following course of action on January 8, 2015 relating to the transitional comprehensive study of the KSM (Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell) Project. The authorities may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, pursuant to section 37 of the former Act, after taking into consideration the comprehensive study report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures and follow-up program that the authorities consider appropriate, the authorities are of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • Groundwater Quantity;
  • Groundwater Quality;
  • Surface Water Quantity;
  • Surface Water Quality;
  • Fish and Fish Habitat;
  • Wetlands;
  • Wildlife;
  • Effects on residents of Nisga'a Lands, Nisga'a Lands and Nisga'a interests;
  • Human Health; and
  • Current Use of Land and Resources.

A follow-up program to verify the accuracy of the environmental assessment and/or determine the effectiveness of any measures taken to mitigate the adverse environmental effects is required for this project. For further information, please contact Environment Canada.
