Kemess South Gold-Copper Mining Project (Archived)

Description: Royal Oak Mines has submitted a proposal to construct and operate an open-pit copper, gold, & silver mine-mill complex at the Kemess South property in north central British Columbia.

Decision of the Minister of the Environment: On October 16, 1996, following a review of public comments and the environmental assessment report, the Minister concluded that the project is unlikely to cause significant adverse environmental effects and referred the project back to the responsible authorities for appropriate next steps.

Federal Responsible Authorities: Fisheries and Oceans Canada (lead) and Natural Resources Canada
