Description: Atomic Energy of Canada Limited has submitted a proposal to upgrade the Waste Treatment Centre at Chalk River in northeastern Ontario, to improve the processing technology and to increase the throughput capacity to reliably treat low-level radioactive wastes.

Decision of the Minister of the Environment: On August 4, 1998, following a review of public comments and the environmental assessment report, the Minister concluded that the project is unlikely to cause significant adverse environmental effects and referred the project back to the responsible authority for appropriate next steps.
