Decommissioning of the former Pyrocel Plant (Archived)

Quebec

Description: Public Works and Government Services Canada is proposing to decommission, decontaminate and restore the site of the former Pyrocel plant that is located in Louiseville, Quebec. The Pyrocel plant manufactured and recycled car batteries. The plant, which ceased all operations in 1986, is in somewhat of a poor state. The building and property are contaminated with lead and phenol.

Decision of the Minister of the Environment: On April 24, 2002, following a review of public comments and the environmental assessment report, the Minister concluded that the project is unlikely to cause significant adverse environmental effects and referred the project back to the responsible authority for appropriate next steps.
